Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022

The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 is a bipartisan bill intended to ensure that those living or working at the base between 1953 and 1987 receive fair compensation for illnesses or injuries as a result of toxic water contamination. Many of these individuals have had their claims inappropriately denied or delayed, resulting in additional harm.

The Bill is making its way through Congress as part of the Honoring Our PACT Act of 2022, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on March 4, 2022. The Act will permit people who worked, lived, or were exposed in-utero, to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station New River, or Camp Geiger between 1953 and 1987, to file a claim in U.S. federal court.

Veterans, their loved ones, or civilians who worked at the base, and experienced a water toxicity-related illness may be eligible for compensation.

Camp Lejeune Water Contamination VA Benefits

Veterans and others exposed to contaminated drinking water at Camp Lejeune between the mid-1950s and mid-1980s may also qualify for VA benefits. Under VA rules, veterans with qualifying service at Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station New River, or Camp Geiger are entitled to presumptive service connection for certain disabilities—meaning those veterans do not have to present proof that their disabilities are related to drinking the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune.

For decades, service members and their families drank and bathed in water at Camp Lejeune that contained high levels of toxic chemicals, including:
